Announcing our Latest Winner and a New Prize for This Week!

Congratulations to Stephanie, our project manager who won this week’s prize, Camy Tang’s book “Only Uni” by submitting the following comment regarding Project 5: Text or Email Some Sweet Nothings. Click here to read more Project 5 comments.

Stephanie says:

My most successful project so far has been– believe it or not– the text messaging. It never occurred to me to send a text message to my own husband! (Then again, I don’t text anyone really… but I digress.) So it really struck my hubby as something out of the ordinary. Not only that, it was a rather long one that included prayer for him in his work & spiritual life; and he was duly impressed with the amount of time and thought I put into it. I felt so good for having blessed him. The bonus came a few weeks later. He had just left for an international business trip & knew that our week would be a tough one at home (3 wee ones). When he arrived at his destination, he sent me a text message (a long one!), letting me know he was safe & wishing us a “successful” time back home. That really blessed my socks off!

To Stephanie: Please contact us at kathi@thehusbandproject.org, so we can send the book, “Only Uni” to you right away.

To all Project Managers: Remember to submit your comments. Other project managers enjoy reading comments to get ideas and see how other hubbies are responding. Your comment can be short and sweet, or you can provide as many details as you like. With each entry your name is entered into our weekly drawing.

Are you ready? September is Emergency Preparedness Month

When it comes to emergency preparedness, I am a slacker.

Yes, I may have 42 meals in my freezer, but a fat lot of good that is going to do me if there is an earthquake (did I mention that I live in California,) and we lose power.

And I have to say that I haven’t always been the most prepared person on the block. Once, I had gone to a MOPS group where they made emergency car kits. (I will give you the list on Monday if you want to do this with a group of your own. Kind of like a Freezer Meal Swap but with bandaides and tongue depressers.) One of the items in the kit was a sanitary napkin  – great for pressing against a head injury.

When I explained the purpose of the pad to my son Justen, his response was, “Promise me you will just let me bleed to death…”

Apparently, my kids are not always safety first, either.

So I am going to spend the next couple of weeks working on my disaster prep. Wanna do it with me?

I will give you lists of what you need to have on hand, great links and ideas from the best in the business to be prepared for everything from earthquakes to the latest on what you should have for the swine flu.

Don’t worry. I’m not panicing, but we all need to Amodia AD on hand anyway, right?

Starting on Monday, I will be getting my plan together and share it with you.

Let’s be safety girls!

Becoming a Locavore (one cheese at a time.)

I had a fascinating discussion with some of my friends on Facebook about how we eat. I am working  hard to change some lazy eating habits. On Wednesday, I will be discussing some of the food controversy that I have been facing recently. (Warning – RANT ALERT!) But so many of my friends wanted this list of Bay Area places to start buying local grown and breed foods.

I know that many of you don’t live in the Bay Area, but I thought this would get the ball rolling to the conversation. If you live in  a different part of the US (or even Canada) and have a favorite local source, please share it here. (I’ve found out a lot more people read this blog than I originally thought, so even if you’re in Austin TX and think no one will be interested in your favorite cheese source, I bet someone will.)

Bitter Much? For those of us who need a Little Encouragement

OK – so we have been at these projects for a while now and you may be wondering if it’s really doing anything. Your life is still a mess, you still don’t have clean socks and it doesn’t matter if you do these stupid little projects because it’s hardly making a diffrence.

Bitter much?

So if you need a little encouragement today, let me share a letter that I received from Cathy who has been doing the Project. I love how she asked for help to get it done – we all need a partner in crime when it comes to bringing life into order.

Hi, Kathi,

I love getting your blog’s. I’m not that familiar with how to post, so I thought I’d just reply to this email.

My sister Mary came to visit last weekend, and I asked for her help in the bathroom, because it was a two-person job. I had soap, shampoo, tooth brushes, etc. from Costco in big packages, and no place to put them, so they’d been on my bathroom counter for two months.

We set up a bunch of laundry baskets, and she sat on the toilet seat (lid closed, of course) while I pulled from each cupboard. Items went into baskets as “Cathy’s cosmetics”, “Jim’s stuff”, “Medicines”, “Travel sizes of stuff we actually use”, or “Shared stuff” (like toothpaste and toilet paper). Everything else went into the last basket — “Throw out”.

In the process, I had discovered I had bought the same product more than once, because I had no idea I already had the first one.

When we were done, I had tossed travel sizes of items I never use, old cosmetics, samples I would never open, old toothbrushes, hair brushes, etc. and I had room for everything to go under the sink with space to spare. Now there’s a drawer for Cathy’s stuff, a drawer for Jim’s stuff, a center container for shared stuff, and separate shelves for medicines, first aid, and travel. And it’s easy for me to see how many I have of anything.

Having my sister help was important, because there was so much stuff, and not enough room for me to walk to each deposit site. (I don’t get up as easily from sitting on the floor reaching into the back of cupboards as I used to). She says she didn’t do much, but she was the extra extension to my reach to help distribute into each pile, and then hand back to me.

Regards,

- Cathy

Bonus Day – Week 1 Sex – Doing Your Homework

Bonus Day Week 1 imageIt’s time to talk about sex, ladies.

Your man needs and wants sex, probably more than you do.

If a man feels like he’s desirable to you, the love of his life, the other areas that he may be struggling in (work, parenting, etc.) seem somehow more manageable.

One time this week, it’s your job to initiate sex. For some of you, this is going to be way beyond your comfort zone. Do what you can – if it means snuggling, do that. The idea here is to take the first step and be open and tender.

In my experience, it’s better to shoot for earlier in the week to “make your move,” so that if things come up (he has to work late, sick kids, etc.) you still have some time to check this off your list.

In preparation for your romantic evening, I encourage you to pick up a book on the subject. Let it be your inspiration in case things have become a little predictable (or downright non-existent).

Two of my favorites, both written by Dr. Kevin Leman:
Sex Begins in the Kitchen” and “Sheet Music”

Bonus Project – Week 2 Sex – Shopping, a Gift for Both of You

Bonus Project Week 2Just a reminder, ladies…each week there’s a Bonus Project, to be completed at the time of your choice within the next seven days.

How’s your lingerie wardrobe? Was the last teddy you bought a week before your wedding?

One night this week: Wear something sexy to sleep in. It doesn’t need to be one of Victoria’s sweet nothings. Perhaps just a silky nightshirt or a lacy camisole; the goal is to dump the Nike t-shirt you normally sport.

It’s your job to make sure that sleep is not all that happens in your pretty new nighty.

Make the extra effort to feel great about yourself – you know that some of that mood will rub off on your husband.

Prayer for Today
Dear God, sometimes I see sex as a burden instead of the gift it is for our marriage. Please help me feel confident in the area of our sex life.
